Laser Welding

Typical applications

Chain welding:
As the weld of the link’s gap happens during the assembling process inside of the chain making machine, no post treatment is required. This safes labour time and costly solder. Additionally the weld is stronger than the solder. The StarWeld 20/40/90 is a specially optimized laser, which can be integrated easily into existing production lines.

Mass production:
The parts which have to be assembled together can be pre treated before welding. For example surface treatment like, polishing or matt finishing can be made with automatic tumbling systems, like Drag finisher or automatic Sandblaster. Stone setting can also be done before assembling, which is quite often faster and safer than at the end of the assembling process. After welding these pre treated items together, only minor cleaning like slight buffing or steam cleaning has to be done. The recommended lasers are the Desktop, Performance and the Performance CNC.

Assembly:
The main advantage is the reduced assembly time with a Laser. No difficult to make fixtures (setting into wax, covering with plaster, removing the wax, degreasing) or time consuming steel wire binding have to be applied. The combination of 2 different alloys (for example gold/steel) is no problem at all. Recommended lasers: Desktop and Performance.

Design:
As the heat of the laser is so localized, welds can be done right next to heat sensitive materials like wood, plastic, precious stones, pearls or springs. Also spider web like filigree items can be made of wires as thin as 1/10th of a millimeter. Recommended laser: Performance.

Repair:
In the field of repair the Laser is a tool which is unbeaten in respects of speed, preciseness and flexibility. As generally all jewelry metals can be laser welded, there are no limitations. In most cases precious stones or spring do not need to be taken out before welding. Even very difficult to handle alloys like pewter or custom made jewelry (white metal) can be welded with a laser. Antiques can be restored with only minor damage to the original surface. Watchbands, watches and their parts can be welded easily, as the laser offers facilities for the use of protecting gas like Argon or Nitrogen. Recommended lasers: Desktop and Performance.

Performance
The bestselling manual laser welding unit worldwide! More than 4,000 customers use this system for fine-welding stainless steel, titanium, gold or platinum. With this tool they create seam welds under 100 microns and work with materials as thin as 10 microns or wires of 20 microns in diameter. Learning to operate this system is a matter of hours.

Select
The Select is a fully integrated system: ergonomically optimized manual welding laser, joystick controlled deposit welding system or high-precision CNC system – a unique welding concept with four high-precision axes, short setup times and easy CNC programming.

Desktop
The Desktop is the smallest and most cost-efficient model of the successful manual welding series. A compact, low-cost and multi-purpose manual welding laser. The laser achieves excellent results in the precise welding of electronic components, in precision mechanics as well as in the design and repair work of jewelry and also in the production and repair of crowns and bridges in dental industry.

StarWeld 20/40/90
The new StarWeld 20/40/90 has a compact enclosure that can be conveniently installed under a desk. The StarWeld 20/40/90 produces high-quality and consistent spot and seam welds on metals and alloys, including precious metals, even under difficult process conditions, due to the individually adjustable pulse shapes. It is the ideal system for the electronics, electro-mechanical, opto-electronics, sensor, medical device and jewelry industries.
