- these instructions, found on many packages,
can be surprisingly hard to follow. Classic
mechanical opening aids, like the embossing
of a corner, demand the application of significant
initial force on the part of the user and
produce irregular tears.
Easy Opening, the selective weakening of
packaging film through laser application, is
the perfect remedy. Latest generation laser
systems like the StarScribe CW make clever
use of the varying optical properties of layers
of film. They selectively weaken the mechanically
supporting layers without damaging
others, such as those sealing off light and
moisture. The wrapping always tears exactly
along the lasered line.
Cross web
For the rest of the production process, about
eighty percent of all bags and pouches have
to be arranged on the web so that the Easy
Opening application runs perpendicular to
the winding direction (cross web). The printing
on the wrapping and the structure of the
scribing are synchronised through index
marks. The StarScribe CW uses up to six
CO2 lasers with high speed scanner heads
and an operating range of 700 mm x 700 mm
and can be integrated into winder and cutter
systems with a web width of up to 1600 mm.
This flexible high-capacity technology allows
for any user-defined scribing structures and
even for scribing both sides of the packaging
and freeform trimming.
On-The-Fly
The transport speed of the web is measured
and calculated into the motion sequence of
the laser beam (On-The-Fly technology).
The system automatically adapts to the
power-up and -down processes of the installation
through a software based on a proven
standard LaserCAD application by ROFIN
BAASEL, thus providing the perfect conditions
for flexible programming and product
innovations.
High volume
With an output of up to 1,800 watts, the
StarScribe CW is also suited for high-volume
production or complicated scribing contours.
With the optional software module the
system can be simultaneously applied to scribings
along the web winding direction. For
this application we also recommend our
specialised systems StarScribe
Easy and
StarScribe Easy
Remote.
